Material Guide

Suede, Nubuck, Nappa, Crazy Horse

Leather is not one surface. The same shape can feel quieter, cleaner, softer, or more rugged depending on the material placed on it.

This guide explains the main Jull Studio leather finishes, and how to choose between them.

The four Jull Studio leathers, side by side

Quick guide

Four finishes at a glance. The detail follows below.

MaterialSurfaceCharacterBest for
Suede Soft, matte, velvety Relaxed and tactile Soft texture and casual refinement
Nubuck Fine matte nap Clean and understated Minimal texture without a fuzzy look
Nappa Smooth leather surface Polished and sharp A cleaner loafer expression
Crazy Horse Pull-up leather character Personal and rugged Visible wear, marks, and patina

By material

What each finish looks like, how it behaves, and who it suits.

Suede, soft matte nap

Suede

The softest-looking surface in the range. A matte, velvety texture that gives the shoe a more relaxed character.

Choose suede if you want a softer, more tactile look. It works well when the shape should feel refined, but not formal.

Suede also asks for more care. It is more sensitive to water, oil, and stains than smooth leather. Clean it dry with a suede brush, and avoid ordinary leather cream, oil, or wax.

Best forSoft texture, matte finish, relaxed styling.

Careful ifYou want easy cleaning or frequent wet-weather use.

Nubuck, fine matte nap

Nubuck

Also matte, but it reads cleaner and finer than suede. Texture without looking too soft or casual.

Choose nubuck if you want an understated material that still has surface depth. A good middle point for those who want texture but prefer a cleaner line.

Like suede, keep nubuck away from water and oil. Brush it dry with a nubuck or suede brush. Avoid smooth-leather creams, which can change the surface texture.

Best forClean matte texture, subtle surface character.

Careful ifYou expect low-maintenance leather.

Nappa, smooth clean surface

Nappa

The cleanest smooth-leather look in the range. Sharper and more polished than suede, nubuck, or Crazy Horse.

Choose Nappa when you want the shoe to look more composed. On Antalya, Nappa Black gives the loafer a cleaner daily shape without making it formal in the old sense.

Nappa still needs care. It can crease and mark. Wipe dust with a soft dry cloth, use a slightly damp cloth only for light dirt, and avoid alcohol, harsh cleaners, and direct heat.

Best forClean leather surface, sharper daily wear.

Careful ifVisible scratches make you anxious.

Crazy horse, waxed pull-up leather

Crazy Horse

The most character-driven leather in the range.

It develops visible marks, tone variation, and surface movement with wear. That is the point. A pair in Crazy Horse should not stay visually perfect; it should become more personal.

Choose Crazy Horse if you like leather that records use. Do not choose it if you want a completely clean, uniform, formal surface. For care, wipe with a soft dry cloth, use a slightly damp cloth only if needed, and let it dry naturally. Balm or conditioner can darken it, so test first and use very little.

Best forCharacter, patina, visible wear.

Careful ifYou want a clean, formal finish.
